ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 14, 2005 - ProQuest Information and Learning announced its newest collection of current news, Latin American Newsstand. The electronic, full-text database with 30 newspapers, magazines, and wire services from 12 countries will be available in February. Languages include Spanish, Portuguese, and English. ProQuest Information and Learning, a unit of ProQuest Company, is an electronic publisher of content for libraries and educational institutions worldwide. Key newspaper titles include El Universal, MexicoCity’s largest-selling newspaper; El Nacional (Venezuela); O Globo (Brazil); La Nación (Argentina); and El Mercurio (Chile). Three business titles, Valor Economico (Brazil), Portafolio (Colombia) and El Economista (Mexico) are important sources for researchers, as well. “We’re pleased to expand ProQuest’s newspaper offerings to include a significant core group of Latin American newspapers and business information products. The demand for Spanish and Portuguese-language news and information has grown significantly in all types of libraries. The addition of these key titles in the ProQuest Newspaper program helps libraries meet their constituents’ needs,” said Chris Cowan, ProQuest vice president, publishing. Latin American Newsstand includes seven Brazilian newspapers, three Mexican newspapers, two newspapers each from Argentina, Costa Rica, Peru, and Uruguay, and single newspapers from Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. The remaining titles are regional magazines and wire services including Noticias Financieras financial newswire; Pulso Latinoamericano, a monthly news digest published by Grupo de Diarios América; InfoAmericas market analysis and regional economic trends; IPS-Inter Press Service news agency; El Reporte Delta weekly technology newsletter; and Business Wire Latin America. Each title will have an interface in its native language; both Spanish and Portuguese interfaces will be available. Free trials are available.
