ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 24, 2005 - ProQuest Information and Learning announced the upcoming release of C19 — The Nineteenth Century Index, a finding tool for 19th-century materials in multiple formats, enabling faster, more comprehensive research of one of the most studied centuries. ProQuest Information and Learning is an electronic publisher of content for libraries and educational institutions worldwide.

Bearing ProQuest’s Chadwyck-Healey™ imprint, C19 is part of ProQuest’s ambitious 19^th-century digital publishing program. The initial release of C19 will be a subject index of relevant information in books, periodicals, government documents and newspapers.  It will continue to grow with the addition of records from other 19^th-century digital collections and new records from contributing libraries, special collections, and scholarly digitization projects.

C-19 will include:

• 1.2 million records from books in the Nineteenth Century Short Title Catalogue
• Article-level records from magazines and journals from American Periodical Series, PCI Full Text, and Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals
• Subject Catalog to the 19^th Century House of Commons Parliamentary Papers
• Palmer's Index to the Times London

Prior to announcing C19, ProQuest recently released digital access to House of Commons Parliamentary Papers, 1801 – 1900, considered to be the most detailed primary source for the study of 19^th-century Britain, its colonies, and the wider world. Two important new components to C19 that are cross-searchable with the Parliamentary Papers will be included in the release. 

The Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals (1824-1900), licensed from Taylor and Francis, will be the first online version of a key scholarly resource, indexing 45 important Victorian periodicals and their many anonymous and pseudonymous contributors. Nineteenth Century Short Title Catalogue will provide the first digital access to the renowned bibliographic database that catalogs the 19th-century holdings of eight of the world's top research libraries.
