UMI ETD Administrator

ProQuest's UMI has served as the steward of significant collections, including graduate works, since 1938.  During that time, thanks to successful publishing partnerships with 700 universities, UMI Dissertation Publishing has shepherded more than 2.4 million graduate works into the scholarly record for the advancement of research.  Now the process is easier than ever, with UMI's Web-based system.

Use ETD Administrator - the best workflow tool for publishing graduate works
The UMI ETD Administrator system helps manage the electronic submission of dissertations and theses that your university plans to publish with us. It simplifies the submission process for students and graduate administrators alike by moving all steps online and eliminating the need to box and ship paper copies of each dissertation or thesis.

Student Submission Process
We will establish a unique ETD Administrator site for your students that will guide them through uploading their graduate works and all relevant information. The system alerts the designated administrator for your school when each student submission is complete, providing an opportunity to review the submission before sending it to us.

The Administrator Role
Every ETD Administrator site will have one primary administrator, with additional administrators depending on the size and needs of your school. Alerted when new submissions are completed, the administrator reviews each submission before sending to UMI, either individually or in batches. The administrator can also have the prepublication version of each submission posted to a university FTP site.

Once your ETD Administrator site has been set up, we will notify you and provide administrator-level access. You will then have the ability to:

  • Review and edit submissions
  • Communicate with student authors about their submissions
  • Send submissions through to UMI
  • Run reports on submissions sent to UMI

Why go online with the ETD Administrator?

A faster, simpler submission process

  • Faster publication: Online submissions typically are processed twice as quickly as paper submissions.
  • Easier submissions: Students log on, input their information, and upload their manuscripts for review by your school's site administrator - usually in less than an hour. All instructions and guidance are at their fingertips.

Results in the highest-quality product

  • Superior publication: Manuscripts submitted digitally retain their original appearance, with color images, graphics, and crisp, clear text.

Provides the management tools you need

  • Easier administration: Administrators log on to review and manage submissions, communicate with students about their submissions, and send them off to UMI for publishing when they are ready.  No more boxes to ship, and no more shipments to track.
  • Online payment by credit card: Through the ETD Administrator, students can pay their publishing fees, copyright registration fees (optional), and purchase print copies of their graduate works (optional) using a credit card - so no more payments to manage.
  • Free delivery to the library: When submissions are sent through to UMI, the ETD Administrator can post the pre-print versions of the same submissions to a library FTP site.
