Administrator Instructions)
What happened?
The following ProQuest error:"Error 1008: ProQuest was not able to log you
in because your information does not match your library's access information. "
will display when you attempt to log in to ProQuest with a barcode or library
provided identifier, and the password entered is not recognized.
What does this mean?
If you are a student or library patron, this error is common and
should not alarm you. Most often, this error occurs simply because the barcode
or identifier was mistyped.
What should I do?
Please re-enter your barcode or identifier carefully to try again. If you
believe you already have entered the proper barcode or identifier from your
library and you are receiving this error message and are unable to connect,
please review the following information:
- Make certain that you do not have the "Caps Lock" function activated
or any other functionality activated that might cause you typing to be
entered incorrectly, such as voice dictation software or an alternative
language keyboard application.
- If you are attempting to use the same identifier that you use for
local library web pages, such as the library catalog, you may need to
use a different username and password for ProQuest. Please contact your
library reference desk, your institutional help desk, or your offsite
support services for assistance.
- If you are trying to use an Athens username and password, you
will want to access ProQuest through
this page.
If you do not know what any of the above terms mean, you should contact your
library reference desk, your institutional help desk, or your offsite support
services for assistance.
If you believe you have properly configured you computer for access and have
accurate access information from your library and you are still unable to
connect, you may also wish to review the following:
- Check your computer and web browser settings. To ensure you will
be able to successfully access ProQuest products, please click on our Browser
Health Check.
Unfortunately, because every library is set up differently, ProQuest Support
cannot provide authentication assistance or information to end-users.
Library Administrator Instructions
If you are a Library Administrator, this error indicates that an
authentication attempt to ProQuest was made via the local library identifier
method. The barcode or identifier entered was not recognized by the ProQuest
authentication system. This failure can be caused by a number of scenarios, such
as the following common ones:
- A user is attempting to access ProQuest via a local library barcode or
identifier and mistypes the entry. This is the most common reason for
this error. You may wish to verify that the password is accurate so that the
user does not lock out the account with multiple failed attempts.
- The barcode or identifier has not been added or updated to your ProQuest
account. Please make certain that the user is not attempting to use a
barcode or identifier that has not yet been fully updated into the
Authentication system.
If you need assistance, please contact
ProQuest
Technical Support so that we may help you to resolve the problem.
