Instructions)
What happened?
The following ProQuest error:"Error 1005: The Account Name you entered is not
recognized by ProQuest. " will display when you attempt to log in
to ProQuest with an account name and password logon, and ProQuest was unable to
recognize the Account Name that you entered to log on.
What does this mean?
If you are a student or library patron, this error is common and
should not alarm you. Most often, this error occurs simply because the account
name was mistyped.
What should I do?
Please re-enter your account name and password carefully to try again. If you
believe you already have the proper access information from your library and you
are receiving this error message and are unable to connect, please review the
following information:
- Make certain that you do not have the "Caps Lock" function activated
or any other functionality activated that might cause you typing to be
entered incorrectly, such as voice dictation software or an alternative
language keyboard application.
- If you are attempting to use the same username and password that you
use for local library web pages, such as the library catalog, you may
need to use a different username and password for ProQuest. Please contact
your library reference desk, your institutional help desk, or your offsite
support services for assistance.
- If you are using an Athens username and password, you will want
to access ProQuest through
this page.
If you do not know what any of the above terms mean, you should contact your
library reference desk, your institutional help desk, or your offsite support
services for assistance.
If you believe you have properly configured you computer for access and have
accurate access information from your library and you are still unable to
connect, you may also wish to review the following:
- Check your computer and web browser settings. To ensure you will
be able to successfully access ProQuest products, please click on our Browser
Health Check.
Unfortunately, because every library is set up differently, ProQuest Support
cannot provide authentication assistance or information to end-users.
Library Administrator Instructions
If you are a Library Administrator, this error indicates that an
authentication attempt to ProQuest was made via an account name and password.
The account name was not recognized as a valid ProQuest account name. This
failure can be caused by a number of scenarios, such as the following common
ones:
- A user is attempting to access ProQuest via a username and password and
mistypes the account name. This is the most common reason for this error.
- A user is attempting to access ProQuest remotely and does not know the
library's account name. Please make certain that the user attempting to
access ProQuest is using the library's preferred method for remote access.
- If a user has been
using a different keyboard configuration or an IME (Input Method Editor) for
another language, it could send the wrong characters to ProQuest as the
password, even thought the keystrokes might technically be correct. Make
certain that the user's computer is not using any alternative keyboard
configurations while inputting their user name and password.
If your patrons/students continue to encounter this problem, please contact
ProQuest
Technical Support to discuss alternate remote access options.
If none of the above scenarios or suggestions seems to apply, please contact
ProQuest Customer Service so that we may help you to resolve the problem.
