What happened?

The following ProQuest error:"Error 1006: The ProQuest account your are trying to access has expired." will display when you attempt to log in to ProQuest with an account name and password logon, and the account has expired.

What does this mean?

If you are a student or library patron, this error should not alarm you. Most often, this error occurs simply because the library has set up a new account with ProQuest or has chosen to cancel its subscription to ProQuest.

What should I do?

This error is brought about to protect your library's account from misuse or abuse. Only an authorized representative of your library can confirm for you whether the library still subscribes to ProQuest and what methods you can use to access ProQuest content. In order to find out the best way to access ProQuest, you should contact your library reference desk, your institutional help desk, or your offsite support services for assistance.

Unfortunately, because this error indicates an expired account to ProQuest, ProQuest Support can only provide support assistance to authorized library representatives on this error and cannot provide authentication assistance or information to end-users.

Library Administrator Instructions

If you are a Library Administrator, this error indicates that the access account to ProQuest used for logon has expired. This error can be caused by a number of scenarios, such as the following common ones:

  • The account has been changed to a new account with new login information. This is the most common reason for this error. You may wish to verify that any changes to your ProQuest account are communicated to the whole library community.
  • The library no longer subscribes to ProQuest. This error is expected when your library no longer subscribes to ProQuest products.
  • A user is attempting to access ProQuest via an older or expired user account. If a library has changed its access methods or created a new user account and disabled or expired and older user account, this error may occur. Please provide the user with updated connection and access instructions for ProQuest through your new library accounts.

If none of the above scenarios or suggestions seems to apply, please contact ProQuest Customer Service so that we may help you to resolve the problem.
