Browser and Workstation Security Requirements
  • Supported Browsers:
    • For PC and Mac systems: IE 5.01 or higher or Netscape 6.01 or higher or a Mozilla compatible browser. (Firefox included).
    • Mac only: Safari 1.x or higher.

Access and Authentication
We offer IP, Referring URL and Username/Password access to SIRS products.  The URL's are below. There are two main URLS in which you can access the various SIRS products that you subscribe to.
  • For SIRS Knowledge Source(SKS), Researcher, Government Reporter, Renaissance, SKS Webselect, and Interactive Citizenship the URL is:  http://sks.sirs.com
  • For SIRS Discoverer, and Discoverer Webfind the URL is http://discoverer.sirs.com

To access the SIRS Guideline to Linking (connecting) click here.  This document presently details how to set up connection URLs, bookmarks, desktop shortcuts, and web site links. (referring url).  NOTE: Referring URL authentication is not supported on a Mac.

Administering your Account / Making Changes
SIRS offers some account changes at the customer administrator level.  Please click here to access the system administrator options.

If you have any questions or would like SIRS to make the account changes for you, please contact Customer Service, or fill out the online form.

Resources for Training
You  access a wide variety of training material the ProQuest K-12 website.  Please click here and then select the product you want training material for. 

You can also click on the "Librarian's Corner" link at the bottom of the main page when connected to one of the SIRS products and you will find Curriculum & Training Materials.

Open URL Linking and MARC Records
  • This database is not OpenURL Source or Target compliant.
  • MARC Records are available only for SIRS Enduring Issues (Hardcopy Product).  SIRS Marc Records for Enduring Issues are distributed on a floppy disk once per year.  The disk contains 2 zip files, one is a micro list of enduring issues 1-8 and the other is 8 folders,  1 per volume.  The Marc Records should be compatible with all Library automation systems. If the floppy disk MARC records does not work, clients can download the MARC records for SIRS Enduring Issues from http://www.sirs.com/EnduringIssues/MARC.html.
Meta-Searching
  • XML Gateway is not available.
  • This database does not support Z39.50 Access.
